Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) - Lot 28
Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) Dessins en marge des Chevaliers de la Table ronde. Paris, N.R.F., 1941; in-4 paperback Exceptional single copy on Meliona. Autograph manuscript signed by Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963), two pages on a 1959 endpaper. "I sign with my two hands and mark my star "Miracles have their rules, their figures, their verisimilitude and their implausibility. You have to feel them. Truth does not have the delights of lies. It's sweet to live with. The play proves it, and the characters? at the return of order and sunshine. They lived under a "charm" and let themselves live... they remain alone and raw. The drawings in this album were chosen from a large number of studies done in the margins of the text, as my work progressed. They complete the volume "des Chevaliers" on the table of those who know what maniacal love a poet accompanies his undertakings". Large original drawing, signed full-page, with color highlights "These young demons are Ginifer's colleagues". Large original drawing, signed across the entire faux-title in blue and yellow colored pencil; Head of a Woman "Le Graal". The Portrait of Cocteau on the frontispiece has been reproduced in ink, colored and signed.
