In the style of Lizinka Aimée Zoé DE MIRBEL (1796-1849) James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) Watercolor. 15.5x11.5 cm (view) In a wood and gilded stucco frame decorated with palmettes Note: A pupil of Augustin, she specialized in watercolor miniatures. During the Revolution, she was painter to Louis XVIII and Charles X, and it was Louis XVIII who made her marry the botanist Ch. F. Brisseau de Mirbel in 1824. James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was an American novelist best known for 'The Last of the Mohicans' (1826). He visited France the year the novel was published. In Paris, he met Sir Walter Scott, who introduced him to Lizinka Aimée Zoé DE MIRBEL. A portrait of James Cooper by Lizinka de MIRBEL is in the Wallace Collection, and was used in an engraving by J. Thomson published in 1831.
