Seated Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra Alabaster with traces of lacquer and gilding. Burma, 19th century. H 89 cm. Seated Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra on a lotus-shaped pedestal, clad in a finely engraved Utarasanga drape, with the Ushnisha crowned by a flame-shaped rasmi. The delicate facial features and the purity of the alabaster lend this work an aura of serenity. The remnants of gilding and black lacquer evoke the intensity of 19th-century Burmese religious fervor.
