Handwritten letter in pen "Monsieur Le Maire, With reference to the letter you did me the honor of writing to me on the 11th of this month, I hasten to tell you that, barring accidents that I cannot foresee, we shall be within your walls no later than 10 ½ a.m. on July 18th, carrying the mortal remains of Mr de Chateaubriand, my Uncle.
Mr Marion has sent you, Monsieur Le Maire, the measure you requested, which you have probably received by now. In case you have not received it, I enclose a duplicate with the attached note.
I have the honor to be with high consideration, and the greatest gratitude for the manner in which you kindly receive the mortal remains of my Uncle, Your compatriot, Monsieur Le Maire,
Your most humble and obedient servant Chateaubriand.
Paris, July 13th 1848.
P.S. we shall take the road to Caen as the shortest, and therefore the most suitable for a funeral convoy."
