Seated Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra Alabaster with traces of lacquer and gilding. Burma, XIXᵉ century. H 89 cm. Seated Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra on a lotiform base, dressed in a finely engraved Utarasanga drapery, his head surmounted by the Ushnisha topped with the flame-shaped rasmi. The delicate facial features and the purity of the alabaster lend this work an aura of serenity. Remnants of gilding and black lacquer recall the intensity of Burmese religious fervor in the XIXᵉ century.
