Pair of geese - China, Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) Polychrome terra cotta Rare and elegant pair of naturalistic geese in modeled terra cotta, decorated with red, yellow and turquoise pigments. The expressive attitudes, taut necks and slightly raised heads reflect the keen sense of observation of nature typical of Han craftsmen. These zoomorphic figures accompanied the deceased to their tombs, symbolizing prosperity and continuity of life in the afterlife. Remains of original polychromy and beautiful burial patina. Height: 21 cm - Length: 20 cm Provenance: former private collection Age test by thermoluminescence (QED Marseille): consistent with the Han period
