Ernesto GISMONDI (1931-2020) Aton Metal floor lamp Publisher Artemide H. 190 D. 35 cm Note: An engineer by training, Ernesto Gismondi graduated in aeronautical engineering from the Politecnico di Milan, then in missile engineering in Rome. In 1960, he co-founded Studio Artemide S.a.s. with designer Sergio Mazza, a pioneer in the use of plastics and advanced technologies in the design of objects and lighting fixtures. A major figure in Italian design, Gismondi is also a founding member of the Memphis movement, created in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass. His visionary work, combining technical innovation and bold formal language, has had a profound impact on lighting design. A true artisan of Made in Italy, Ernesto Gismondi combines scientific rigor, entrepreneurial spirit and avant-garde vision.
