Alex SWAIN (20th century) A by Alex Eight stools in melamine - Lot 46
Alex SWAIN (20th century) A by Alex Eight stools in melamine-coated wood H. 49 D. 32.5 cm Note: Alex Swain is a British designer based in London, renowned for his pure, durable and minimalist creations. Driven by a quest for simplicity and appropriateness, he designs everyday objects that are as functional as they are elegant, and built to last. With his manifesto "Purity by Design", he opposes the throw-away culture and defends responsible design, made locally from certified materials (FSC/PEFC) sourced from sustainably managed Nordic forests. Born of his love of graphics and typography, the A stool is his first emblematic creation. Its pure A shape, cut from plywood, combines graphic aesthetics, structural stability and lightness. The first piece of self-service furniture at John Lewis in 2011, it embodies a new approach to design: accessible, portable and timeless.
