Delphine Denereaz (XXth century) Tapestry 450x80 cm Note: De - Lot 5
Delphine Denereaz (XXth century) Tapestry 450x80 cm Note: Delphine's artistic practice is rooted in the reuse of domestic textile objects doomed to oblivion. She takes her inspiration from an ancient technique known as "tapis de lirette", which first appeared in the Middle Ages and is still used in many communities around the world. This skill, often considered modest, was used to recycle used family clothing into rugs or blankets: intimate, utilitarian objects kept in the home. Through her works, she questions the memory of objects, their affective power and the stories they carry. She is interested in discreet testimonies, in materials that have no market value but are charged with emotion: good-luck charms, talismans, doudous, familiar fabrics. Each rug thus becomes a fragment of collective and personal memory, recounting the daily lives of those who wove or used it. While she uses a medieval technique on a loom, the young embroiderer creates her designs using a digital tool. In her own way, she tells stories on colorful tapestries.
