The assembly of notables, circa 1787 Folded fan, the double sheet of engraved paper enhanced with gouache of King Louis XVI seated with his brothers, the Counts of Provence and Artois, surrounded by representatives of the nobility and clergy. Calonne is shown on the left reading his speech. On the reverse, excerpts from the King's and Calonne's speeches, preceded by verses from the "Ronde joyeuse": "Louis s'occupe sans cesse/Du bonheur de ses sujets/Chantons avec allégresse/Vive le bon roi des Français". Mounted in exotic wood. The head enhanced with a fine bone plate, the plumes highlighted with a bone fillet. H.t. 27 cm-H.f. 12.9 cm (minor wear)
