Antoine Raymond was a student at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Lyon, then a spinner in Alès.
On September 15, 1895, the day after the Shimonoseki treaty put an end to the first Sino-Japanese war, Lyon's commercial exploration mission to China set sail from Marseille for the Far East.
Marseille for the Far Eastd. Among the 13 people sent on this mission was Raymond Antoine, who was to study the silk industry. He stayed on for a year, exploring the region between Saigon and Shanghai until October 10, 1896.
