Important set of 30 views of Italy with palaces, sometimes animated with antique figures or statues. Three leaves bear the watermark of Fabiano, a town in the province of Ancona that houses the Museum of Paper and Watermarks.
Florent-Constant BOURGEOIS, known as Bourgeois du Castelet (1767-1841) was a pupil of DAVID. A landscape painter, he spent time in Italy, from where he sent many views that he had exhibited at the Salon from 1791 onwards. He was one of the first painters of panoramas. "Denon commissioned him to paint scenes from Bonaparte's campaigns. He painted for the Grand Trianon and Château de Fontainebleau under the Empire and Restoration. He exhibited in the salons for over thirty years, and in 1805 published a collection of picturesque views and scenes of Italy.
