Paul et Virginie, Paris, Carmen, 1838, large in-8 midnight blue glazed calf, five filets spine framing the boards, large central designs in cold and in relief in a frame of cold filets, large gilt inner border, spine very finely decorated with gilt fleurons and arabesques (AT GINAIN) modern wrappers
First printing at the address of ka rue de Richelieu with the vignette of the engraver's tools at the end of the preface in 9 lines. Color map, 29 woodcuts and 7 steel portraits out of text and about 450 woodcuts in the text. The work is followed by the "Indian Cottage". The portrait of the doctor is in two states, foxing, thick but mainly on the supports of the hors texte
